Civic Theatre of Allentown Racial Justice & Equity Statement
In support of racial justice and equity, Civic Theatre of Allentown is committed to the work of anti-racism and we pledge to our community an ongoing commitment to this work across all areas of our organization. We will create a plan of accountability and implement protocols to ensure that Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) flourish at Civic, on both sides of the footlights. We commit to theatrical seasons and outreach programs that more equitably spotlight BIPOC storytelling, helmed by BIPOC artists and teachers, with the full support of Civic Theatre of Allentown’s Artistic and Administrative staff. We acknowledge that these changes will take time and effort.
We will conduct this process with transparency and recognize that the inclusion of fresh voices is the only way to produce real systemic change. This statement and the action steps to be taken, reflect a commitment to change through an ongoing and enduring process supporting racial justice and equity at Civic Theatre of Allentown. We will review and adjust the process as new ideas and opportunities are presented and new artistic partners become an integral part of Civic Theatre.
For those who have been part of the Civic Theatre and mission, thank you. For those who have held back because of underrepresentation at Civic, we extend an earnest invitation to experience Civic Theatre of Allentown as an artist, staff member, patron or volunteer. Our organization will be strengthened by your participation.
