Audio/Visual Production Opportunities – 2026–2027 Season

Civic Theatre of Allentown is seeking skilled and passionate technicians and stage managers to join our exciting season of productions. Work alongside a collaborative production team in a fully equipped performance environment and help bring each show to life.

Sound
Utilizing a Midas Pro 2 console and QLab software, we are seeking Sound Designers, and Board Operators to support our full season of theatrical programming, and performances. Designers attend production meetings and complete pre-tech programming; all operators support tech rehearsals and performances.
 

  • A Christmas Carol - A2/ QLab Operator (Asst. Sound Op)
            Time Commitment: November 22 through December 19

  • American Idiot - A2/ QLab Operator (Asst. Sound Op)
            Time Commitment: February 14 through March 14

  • Disney’s Descendants - Sound Designer
            Time Commitment: March 29 through April 11

  • Disney’s Descendants - QLab Sound and Projections Operator
            Time Commitment: March 29 through April 11

  • The Prom - Sound Designer
           Time Commitment: March 24 through June 27

  • The Prom - Sound Board Operator
            Time Commitment: March 24 through June 27

  • The Prom - A2 / QLab Operator
            Time Commitment: March 24 through June 27

 

Lighting
Operating on an ETC Ion Xe console, opportunities are available for Lighting Designers, Board Operators, and Spotlight Operators. Designers attend production meetings and complete pre-tech programming; all operators support tech rehearsals and performances.

            Time Commitment: November 22 through December 19

  • American Idiot - Spotlight Operator
           Time Commitment: February 14 through March 14

  • Disney’s Descendants - Spotlight Operator
            Time Commitment: March 29 through April 11

Stage Management
Responsible for running rehearsal room and backstage areas, communicating schedules and contacts, taking blocking notation, making crew run sheets and calling the show. 
 

  • Vixen’s Holiday Speakeasy and Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins - Assistant Stage Manager
            Time Commitment: October 26 through December 20

  • A Christmas Carol - Assistant Stage Manager
            Time Commitment: October 26 through December 19

  • The Prom - Stage Manager
            Time Commitment: March 24 through June 27

  • The Prom - Assistant Stage Manager
            Time Commitment: March 24 through June 27

 

Commitment & Compensation
All roles participate in a two-week tech process and production run. Positions are stipend-based, ranging from $200–$800 per production depending on role and scope.

Help the Show Go On—Volunteer with Civic Theatre

At Civic Theatre we maintain the highest level of professionalism while giving our guests a warm and inviting atmosphere. Volunteering at Civic Theatre is never boring. At each theatre performance or film showing, our volunteers can perform several different roles. You can stick with the one you like the best or rotate to have a fresh perspective each time!

Civic Theatre is seeking volunteer assistance in a variety of areas:

  • Ushers and Concessions for Theatre Productions
  • Assistance to the Film Staff
  • Special Events
  • Office Assistance

The volunteer staff at Civic Theatre is vital to the Theatre’s success. In fact, Lehigh Valley residents from all walks of life have pitched in to help with everything from cleaning, organizing special events, stuffing envelopes, ushering, data input, and more. Who can be a volunteer?

  • Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older
  • Volunteers should be friendly, outgoing, and enjoy working with people
  • Volunteers should have an interest in promoting Civic Theatre programs
  • All volunteers performing in a Civic Theatre production18 years or older need to have clearances on file.

Volunteer Clearances are required for all volunteer performance roles over 18 years of age at Civic Theatre.

Open Recurring Volunteer Positions

  • The Volunteer Coordinator serves as the central point of leadership and organization for all volunteer efforts at Civic Theatre of Allentown. This role is responsible for building, managing, and sustaining a strong volunteer program that supports productions, events, concessions, and community outreach. The Volunteer Coordinator works collaboratively with staff to recruit, schedule, train, and recognize volunteers while ensuring accurate recordkeeping and compliance with required clearances.

    This volunteer role is ideal for someone who is organized, people-focused, and passionate about supporting the arts and community engagement.

  • The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for cultivating meaningful relationships between Civic Theatre of Allentown and the broader community. This role focuses on securing community outreach opportunities, partnerships, and external events that increase Civic’s visibility, accessibility, and impact. The Community Engagement Coordinator works closely with staff to identify engagement opportunities and collaborates with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure adequate volunteer staffing for outreach events and Civic productions.

  • The Administrative Volunteer provides essential administrative, marketing, and development support to the Managing Artistic Director and Administrative staff. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys organization, communication, and supporting a nonprofit arts organization behind the scenes. Tasks are assigned based on availability, skills, and organizational needs, allowing for flexibility and meaningful contribution.
