Synopsis:
In this adaptation of the Caldecott Honor-Winning Book, a traveling troupe of actors comes to tow to find no one celebrating Hanukkah. They must put on a show to save the holiday! Will they bring back the spirit of Hanukkah to the town? Will Hershel of Ostropol outsmart the goblins who haunt the old synagogue?

Rehearsal Dates:
Rehearsals will begin the week of November 3. Rehearsals will be 3 days a week until tech on December 11. Tech and dress rehearsals will run Sunday through Friday until Opening. Actors must present their conflicts through Closing performance on their audition forms.

Characters:
HERSHEL - a down-on-his-luck yet buoyant, warm-hearted and wily traveler
THE FOUR TOWNSPEOPLE - a buffoonish quartet (can expand for more roles). some old, some young,
all have worn out clothes, faces and hearts. they often finish each other’s sentences or speak in
unison.
LITTLE GOBLIN - a small, winged and feisty critter
PICKLE GOBLIN - a slobbering oaf
SIMON & RIBSY GOBLIN - a two-headed, comic thug
GOBLIN KING - a cold, fierce supernatural force
SYNAGOGUE OBJECTS - in movement-only scenes with no dialogue, these objects playfully
come to life, charming Hershel while he sleeps so that he will stay in the synagogue (Shammes, Prayer Book, Prayer Shawl).

Printable PDF available Here. Forms must be printed and brought to the audition. Extra printout forms will be available at the sign-in table. Be prepared to list all known conflicts during the entire rehearsal and performance dates (November 3 through December 21).
Resumes and headshots are invited but not required. Photos will be taken where headshots are not provided. Auditions are a first come, first served basis. There will be no appointments. Please plan accordingly.
Audition Requirements:
For your initial audition, please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue that shows your physical movement.
Self-tape/Virtual Auditions:
If you are unable to attend auditions, you may submit a video audition of your monologue to associate_artistic_director@civictheatre.com no later than October 26. We will alert you if we need a call back.
